White House launches mobile app, includes live feeds and ICE reporting line

The White House press room is going to be beamed directly into Americans' phones, as the Trump administration announces a new mobile app that includes live news updates, policies, and official media.

Announced Friday following a series of cryptic posts, the first-of-its-kind app includes live feeds of the official White House accounts, a "news" feed including press releases and announcements, an affordability tab showing the current cost of common goods, and a media gallery — basically a pocket version of the White House website. In an X post announcing the app, the administration included yet another "hype reel" including footage of missile launches.

The app also appears to be a tool to help the administration's mass deportation system, with an included Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) tip line that takes users to the ICE reporting webpage. Users can sign up for government newsletters and even "text" President Donald Trump via the app (it links to the White House's standard contact form, to be clear). Reminder: That means the administration has access to your personal contact information, including your name and number.

Whether or not the app retains more user information than the administration's other feeds is unclear — and both Android and Apple have different app privacy guidelines — but the implication of applying standard app permissions to official government apps (including location tracking and ad targeting) has already alarmed some users. Following a recent standoff between AI developers and the White House over the threat of a mass citizen surveillance program, other users raised immediate concerns about state-sanctioned spyware.

For now, Apple's App Store directs users to the White House's standard technology privacy policy page, which includes data usage policies for visitors to official White House websites, contact forms, and social media pages. Scroll to the bottom, and the only specific information listed under "White House app" is a contact email address.

The sun is rising, flowers are beginning to bloom, and pollen is in the air (so much pollen). This all means spring is finally here, and Amazon is ready to celebrate in its customary fashion: with deals across tons of categories.

Welcome to the third day of the third annual Amazon Big Spring Sale, with discounts set to run through March 31, just like last year. The Amazon Spring Sale is your best chance to save until Prime Day in June (or maybe July?), so don't miss out.

The deals featured in this sale reflect the spirit of the season: Outdoor gear and yard care supplies, spring cleaning supplies, spring fashion, and other household essentials will be the major featured deals. However, there's no shortage of savings on QLED TVs, flagship Sony headphones, Apple devices, Shark and Dyson hair tools, and of course, Amazon devices like Kindles and Echo smart speakers.

The biggest story in the streaming world over the past 12 months (besides the confusing Warner Bros. situation)? Price hikes. So many price hikes. So, we could all benefit from some streaming deals right about now.

Black Friday is the best time of year to score discounts on streaming apps, but any major sale or shopping holiday tends to deliver a few discounts. And Amazon's Big Spring Sale (officially running until March 31) is holding true to that trend. While the overall number of deals is no match for Black Friday, we'll certainly take any discounts we can get.

As Mashable's go-to streaming expert, I'm keeping a close eye out for streaming deals throughout the Big Spring Sale. While things started out slow, we've got some new additions from Roku, including add-ons for popular streaming services like AMC+, MGM+, and Starz. Prime Video add-ons are also starting to ramp up (finally). I'll keep updating this list as any new streamers join the party.

Below, I've rounded up the best streaming offers live during the sale. I've also included deals on streaming devices like Fire TV Sticks, as well as some evergreen streaming deals I think are worth grabbing.

On the surface, this is the same offer as the streamer's Black Friday deal. However, because Paramount Plus hiked its prices in January, this Big Spring Sale discount actually saves you more money. It now costs $13.99 per month for the ad-free Premium plan and $8.99 per month for the ad-supported Essential plan.

Through March 31, you can lock in two months of either plan for only $2.99 per month. That saves you $22 if you choose the Premium plan (why wouldn't you?). Both new and ex-subscribers are eligible for this deal, and it's valid on Paramount+ as a standalone service or on the add-on subscriptions from Roku and Prime Video.

Psst. It's also worth mentioning that an extra discount code is floating around that could potentially knock the price down to just 99 cents per month for two months. However, it appears to work for some folks and not others. Try adding the additional promo code BG2L7M at checkout to see if you're one of the lucky ones.

I think Starz is honestly one of the most underrated streaming services out there. It's home to Lionsgate theatrical hits, so you'll be able to watch recent releases like The Housemaid (starting April 1) and Greenland 2: Migration. Plus, it has its own original series that are worth watching, like the TV adaptation of Lisa Taddeo's book Three Women and the serial killer comedy Sweetpea. For a limited time, Roku users can score a Starz subscription for only $2.99 per month for two months and get a taste of what the streamer has to offer. It usually costs $10.99 per month, so you'll save about $16 on two months of streaming.

If you've never tried Spotify Premium before, you can snag three free months of the music streaming service through March 31. Typically, it costs $12.99 per month, so you'll keep nearly $40 in your pocket with this deal. A Premium account unlocks ad-free listening, the ability to download music for offline listening and collaborate with friends in real time, 15 hours of audiobook time, and lossless audio. Plus, you'll get weekly listening stats and, should you choose to keep your subscription, access to the famous Wrapped stats.

Already tried Spotify Premium? Amazon Music Unlimited is also offering three free months of its streaming service through March 31. It regularly goes for $11.99/month for Prime members and $12.99/month for non-Prime members, so you can save up to $38.97 with this streaming deal. Besides unlimited music streaming, you'll also get access to one audiobook per month.

It also offers support for Alexa+, Amazon Kids+, Amazon Luna, Xbox Game Pass, and NordVPN, and delivers 4K quality with HDR10+ support.

As a shopping reporter, trust me when I say I understand better than most that Amazon's sale schedule can feel a little fatiguing. However, as a headphones reviewer, I also can't deny that this year's Big Spring Sale offers a great opportunity to upgrade your audio game on the cheap.

Having spent a few years testing headphones, and the last year covering the latest in noise-cancelling tech, open earbuds, and sleep earbuds, I went into this last week of March curious to see what the third iteration of Amazon's Big Spring Sale could bring. Sure, I'd seen the mega-retailer offer some solid tech deals in the two years prior, but the second day of this sale is proving that Amazon isn't playing with savings in headphones this year.

Already, the newly announced Apple AirPods Max 2 are $19 off, even though they're still in their preorder phase. Sony's latest flagship headphones and earbuds are both marked down, and Shokz has plenty of deals for anyone looking for a new pair of workout earbuds. And as of March 27, Bose finally has some discounts too, on three of their popular models: the QuietComfort headphones, QuietComfort Ultra 2 headphones, and Ultra Open earbuds.

This sale is on for one week, from March 25 to March 31 at 11:59 p.m. PT. Anything is possible, but with most of the below deals, I don't imagine we'll see wild fluctuations in price. In other words, if you see a pair of headphones or earbuds you like, I recommend scooping them up.

Best headphones deal Sony WH-1000XM6 $398 at Amazon

Sony's flagship headphones, the Sony WH-1000XM6, are still relatively new, all things considered, meaning that catching them on sale isn't always a given. Granted, even though their sale price of $398 does net you a nice $61.99 price cut, they're still expensive headphones. (If you're looking for a more budget-friendly option, I recommend the Sony WH-CH720N). That said, if you're looking for the best of the best, these Sony headphones offer some of the best sound, noise cancellation, and all-day wear I've ever tried. Plus, unlike their predecessor, their ear cups actually fold. Grab them on sale in any of the available four colorways.

If the WH-1000XM6 are out of your price range, go for a more budget-friendly option. The JLab Lux are surprisingly great for a pair of headphones under $100, and right now you can get them for just $41.99.

As much as I love a good pair of premium earbuds, I'm less in love with the idea of paying over $200 for quality ANC and sound when you can get that for much, much cheaper. For day-to-day use, I often find myself reaching for the Sony WF-C710N earbuds. They have great battery life, a compact case for easy portability, really solid ANC, and a rounded sound profile worthy of the Sony name. Bracetti called them the best Sony earbuds you can get for under $100 (when they're on sale), and I'm comfortable saying they're some of the best earbuds under $100, period.

People love the Bose Ultra Open earbuds, but the Sony LinkBuds Clip are just as comfortable, sound at least as good, and at their full price, cost about $70 cheaper than the Bose buds. I have testing samples of both on my desk, and I find myself reaching for the Sony buds more.

On sale, they're over $100 cheaper than the Bose Ultra earbuds. Mashable contributor Simon Cohen deemed these earbuds a Mashable Selects winner, which means they're a favorite of the Mashable team. This sale price of $198 marks their biggest discount ever, and the first time they've ever gone below $200. For earbuds that just launched in January, that's not too shabby.

Pokémon Pokopia isn't the first big hit for Nintendo Switch 2, but it's arguably the first one to make a lot of people online feel left out about not owning the console.

With tons of people sharing wild builds on social media, Pokopia is pretty hard to resist for lovers of Animal Crossing, Minecraft, and any of the game's other big influences. Unfortunately, the Nintendo Switch 2 costs money, and we live in uncertain economic times. All of this raises the question: Should you buy a Switch 2 for Pokopia?

The arguments for getting a Switch 2 just for Pokopia are pretty straightforward: It's a great game, and the Switch 2 is a great console.

At this point, you already know if Pokopia is your cup of tea or not. I don't need to explain to you why it is or isn't. All I can say is that I'm super not into life sim games generally, but Pokopia got its hooks in me pretty good for a couple of weeks. The developers at Nintendo, Koei Tecmo, and Game Freak have delivered the best Pokémon game in years, full of whimsy and personality, and you can potentially play it forever if you want.

But the nice thing about a Switch 2 is that it can play other games, too. Games like Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and any number of visually enhanced Switch 1 games. That doesn't even get into the massive treasure trove of third-party games, big and small, that you can get on the eShop. Heck, you can even play Virtual Boy games on it, if that's your thing. The Switch 2 might not get every big, hyped up AAA blockbuster (don't count on it getting GTA6), but just about everything else that's worth playing will eventually make its way onto Nintendo's console in due time.

Heck, there are even rumors of a brand new Star Fox game and a full remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time coming in 2026. The Switch 2's lineup could very well be pretty stacked by the end of this year.

Why you shouldn't buy a Switch 2 for Pokopia

The argument against buying a Switch 2 for Pokopia is also easy to lay out: It costs a lot of money that you could spend elsewhere, especially in these economic conditions.

Considering that a Switch 2 on its own is $450 and Pokopia is $70 on top of that, it's hard to blame anyone who would rather hold onto their $520 for the time being, especially if the person reading this is really only interested in Pokopia and wouldn't want to play the other games I listed above.

In the end, there is more to life than video games. But video games are also pretty damn cool, so there's no wrong decision here.

Meet Claude Mythos: Leaked Anthropic post reveals the powerful upcoming model

An accidental leak has now been officially confirmed by AI company Anthropic regarding its most powerful AI model yet.

The model, now known as "Claude Mythos," was originally uncovered in a report from Fortune. Anthropic has since confirmed the details about the leak to the outlet.

The data leak included details about the upcoming release of the Claude Mythos AI model, an "exclusive CEO event," and other internal assets such as PDFs and images, according to Fortune. In total, the leak included nearly 3,000 assets that Anthropic had not previously published.

Claude Mythos leak details

According to Anthropic, the leak was the result of an issue with the content management system (CMS) that the company uses. The data was uploaded to the CMS by the company. However, Anthropic failed to mark the items as private so the data was stored in a publicly accessible data lake.

Some of the data was unused assets from past announcements from Anthropic. Other leaked data was internal corporate information such as employee details or info about an invite-only CEO event.

Also found within the leaked data, however, was information about Claude Mythos in an unpublished blog post draft.

Claude Mythos and Capybara

According to the leaked draft about Claude Mythos, Anthropic has completed its training of the model and refers to it as “by far the most powerful AI model we’ve ever developed.”

In a statement provided to Fortune after the leak, an Anthropic spokesperson described Claude Mythos as an AI performance “step change” and said the model is “the most capable we’ve built to date.” Anthropic says that Claude Mythos is currently in the trial stage and available to select "early access customers."

In addition to the new AI model, the leaked post also mentions a new, unreleased AI model tier from Anthropic called Capybara.

Anthropic currently offers three different tier levels for each of its AI models: Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku. Opus is currently its most powerful and most expensive tier whereas Haiku is the smallest and least expensive. Capybara would sit even above Opus as Anthropic's largest and most intelligent AI model tier.

The leaked post also details Anthropic's concerns about the cybersecurity risks that Claude Mythos brings to the table, too. It appears that Anthropic believes that Claude Mythos could be used by hackers to run cyberattacks.

“In preparing to release Claude Capybara, we want to act with extra caution and understand the risks it poses — even beyond what we learn in our own testing," reads the leaked Anthropic post. "In particular, we want to understand the model’s potential near-term risks in the realm of cybersecurity — and share the results to help cyber defenders prepare.”

Anthropic described its unreleased model as “currently far ahead of any other AI model in cyber capabilities” and that the model “presages an upcoming wave of models that can exploit vulnerabilities in ways that far outpace the efforts of defenders.”

The company said in the leaked draft blog that it was providing early access to organization to give them "a head start in improving the robustness of their codebases against the impending wave of AI-driven exploits.”

If you want a pair of earbuds that stand out from the crowd without emptying your wallet, the Nothing Ear (a) should definitely be on your radar. For the Big Spring Sale, they've dropped to just $58.99, which is $50 off their usual $109 list price.

Mashable's Tech Reporter, Alex Perry, recently rounded up the reviews for these buds, and the consensus is that they deliver way more than their price tag suggests. They offer an open-midrange sound and clarity that outperform those of standard, more expensive AirPods, and they have active noise cancellation strong enough to drown out loud household distractions. Plus, you'll get around five hours of battery life even with every single battery-draining feature turned on at once, like ANC and multipoint pairing.

As always, I checked the fine print, and there are a couple of things you should know. Perry noted that the biggest critique across the board is that the charging case lacks Qi wireless charging and relies strictly on USB-C. But skipping wireless charging is a fair trade-off for a case that's as small and pocketable as Apple's AirPods. Also, according to the Amazon listing, the voice-enabled ChatGPT feature will only work on a Nothing series phone. Still, grabbing earbuds with this level of sound quality for under $60 is a total steal.

Gemini will let you import ChatGPT, other chatbot conversations

Google is making it way easier for loyal OpenAI users to make the switch to Gemini.

This week, the company announced a suite of new "switching tools" that let users efficiently transfer entire chat logs and "memories" — or individual profile details like personal preferences, relationships, and historic context — directly into a new Gemini account. The goal is to skip the time needed to personalize a nascent chatbot assistant and get right into using a Gemini that knows you.

"Once you import these memories, Gemini will understand the same key facts you’ve shared with other apps, like your interests, your sibling’s name, or where you grew up. Instead of starting over from scratch, you can quickly get Gemini up to speed on what matters most to you," the company wrote in a March 26 blog post.

In addition, Gemini can now access and learn from the rest of your linked Google accounts, including Gmail and Photos, using Google's Personal Intelligence.

How to import your chatbot conversations to Gemini

The tools don't just involve simple data upload, although users are encouraged to upload entire chat logs via zip file, too. Instead, Gemini uses your existing chatbot's knowledge to its advantage, offering tailored prompts to gather "memory" that can then be fed back to Gemini. Here's how to use it:

Why users may be flocking to Gemini

Earlier this month, TechCrunch reported that the standalone ChatGPT app had experienced 295 percent day-over-day increase in app uninstalls and a 13 percent decline in downloads, following news that the chatbot's parent company had brokered a deal with President Donald Trump's Department of War. The company swooped in amid an ongoing feud between Anthropic, makers of chatbot Claude, and the Pete Hegseth-led department over the use of generative AI tools for mass domestic surveillance and the potential creation of weapons.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman quickly backtracked, saying that the company had moved too fast in an effort to "de-escalate" a tense situation. But users were still put off by the company's quick acquiescence in negotiating a contract with the administration. Meanwhile, downloads for the Claude app jumped.

If you were hoping Amazon's Big Spring Sale would bring some solid earbud deals, you're in luck. The event runs through March 31, and there are plenty of great tech discounts. These aren't the best wireless earbud deals we've ever seen, but if you need a new pair of buds, you can catch Apple AirPods, the new Sony LinkBuds Clip, and the trendy Nothing Ear (a) noise-cancellers on sale.

So, while Amazon is busy pushing camping gear and cleaning supplies on its homepage, there are some genuinely great markdowns on premium audio gear hiding in the mix.

If you have the budget for a premium audio upgrade, the Sony WF-1000XM6 earbuds are my favorite overall pick right now. They just launched last month with a pretty hefty $329.99 price tag, so seeing them drop to $298 this early is a surprisingly fast discount.

When I tested these for my official review, I was legitimately distracted by how good the music sounded right out of the box. They're easily the most well-rounded and effective noise-cancelling earbuds released in the past year, effortlessly handling everything from shrieking guitar riffs to heavy bass without getting crunchy. Even my editor, Timothy Beck Werth, agreed the audio is "really darn good."

I do have to mention a minor hang-up, though: the touch controls aren't quite as seamless as you'd expect for the price. However, if you're looking for a comfortable fit for all-day wear and top-tier noise cancellation, these might just be the best earbuds of the year.

In his review of the buds, Mashable contributor Adam Doud wrote, "Overall, the AirPods Pro 3 are a remarkable upgrade, even over the AirPods Pro 2, which were already very good."

Even at this rock-bottom price, you still get 10mm drivers that deliver surprisingly punchy bass, plus 10 hours of battery life on a single charge (and 30 hours total with the case). They also hook up to the Soundcore app so you can mess around with 22 different EQ presets and use the "Find My Earbuds" feature if you lose one in the couch cushions.

Just keep in mind that for 20 bucks, you aren't getting active noise cancellation or multipoint pairing — but for commutes, podcasts, or just keeping a backup pair in your gym bag, they easily punch above their weight class.

When it comes to open earbuds, it seems more and more options are coming out by the day. While the Bose Ultra Open earbuds are one of the most popular options, Sony's latest release, the Sony LinkBuds Clip, is worth a closer look. Like the Bose buds, they have a clip design built for maximizing comfort. Also like the Bose buds, they have excellent sound quality.

Mashable contributor Simon Cohen wrote in his review of the buds, "With the possible exception of Bose’s Ultra Open Earbuds ($299), the LinkBuds Clip are the best [open earbuds] I’ve heard." On sale, they're also over $100 cheaper than the Bose buds, so second-best in sound quality hardly feels like settling here.

Take it from someone who tests multiple robot vacuums each month: Not even the best robot vacuum AI features are immune to screwing up. If you're inclined to just do the job yourself — or if the concept of a robot vacuum with a camera sketches you out — at least make the chore enjoyable with a good stick vacuum. You have serious options to choose from at Amazon's Big Spring Sale.

Our favorite cordless vacuum deals so far are all vacuums that someone at Mashable has tested at home and loved. I'll admit that any list of top stick vacuums feels weird without multiple Dyson mentions — Amazon typically isn't a reliable spot to find good deals on Dyson vacuums (even though Amazon's deals on other Dyson products can be quite good.) Most worthwhile Dyson deals simply tend to pop up Dyson.com or Walmart, like the Dyson V12 Detect Slim on sale for $479.99. Maybe it's delusional, but I'm still optimistic about the possibility of Dyson dropping a discount on the new Dyson PencilVac Fluffycones.

There are actually two great Shark stick vacuum deals live at Amazon: The $249 Shark Clean & Empty model is probably the most affordable self-emptying stick vacuum you'll find this season. The other, which I'm highlighting here, is probably the most powerful self-emptying stick vacuum you'll find. $399.99 for that title is more than reasonable.

Though I'm constantly recommending the lightweight Dyson V12 Detect Slim for dust and pet hair on hard floors, the Shark PowerDetect is easily the beastliest vacuum I've tested on carpet — you can literally feel the vigorous double brushroll system digging into the floor. The Clean & Empty Sharks automatically empty the dustbin every time they're hung on the dock to charge, so you won't have to deal with emptying the larger dock dustbin for at least 45 days (it's much longer in my experience). Past the mega convenience, an always-empty dustbin provides visible proof of just how much gunk the PowerDetect has sucked up in the area you're currently sweeping.

If you just want a reliable, no-frills tracker that won't cost more than your gym membership, the Fitbit Inspire 3 is our favorite budget pick. It's normally priced right around $100, but for the Big Spring Sale, it's down to a very affordable $69.95.

In our review, Mashable's Sam Stone calls it the "budget-friendly fitness tracker of our dreams." It sits easily on the wrist and automatically categorizes your activities (so it knows if you're out for a bike ride or a run) without you having to manually mess with the settings.

Because we actually test these things, we do have to mention a couple of minor quirks. Stone says that the heart rate monitor can occasionally get a little inaccurate if your wrist gets super sweaty during an intense workout. Also, the battery life is closer to six or seven days rather than the advertised 10. But considering it fully charges in under two hours, that's barely an inconvenience — and as Stone points out, it "sure beats the Apple Watch's battery life."
