The NYT's latest daily word game has launched in association with The Athletic, the New York Times property that provides the publication's sports coverage. Connections can be played on both web browsers and mobile devices and require players to group four words that share something in common.

This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.

Each puzzle features 16 words and each grouping of words is split into four categories. These sets could comprise of anything from book titles, software, country names, etc. Even though multiple words will seem like they fit together, there's only one correct answer.

If a player gets all four words in a set correct, those words are removed from the board. Guess wrong and it counts as a mistake—players get up to four mistakes until the game ends.

Players can also rearrange and shuffle the board to make spotting connections easier. Additionally, each group is color-coded with yellow being the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Like Wordle, you can share the results with your friends on social media.

Your dream espresso machine is on sale at Amazon for a little while longer

Mashable - Mon, 05/26/2025 - 17:17

SAVE 29%: For Memorial Day Weekend, the Breville Barista Pro espresso machine is on sale at Amazon for $599.99, down from the normal price of $849.95. That's a savings of $249.96 and the lowest price we've ever seen at Amazon.

Opens in a new window Credit: Breville Breville Barista Pro espresso machine (stainless steel) $599.99 at Amazon
$849.95 Save $249.96 Get Deal

For coffee and espresso lovers, the day doesn't really start until we've had our first cup. So, if you want to start your day right, wake yourself up in ways your alarm clock never could with a homemade espresso. Ideally, your espresso shot (or cappuccino, Americano, or iced vanilla latte) will be brewed with an intuitive machine that's easy to operate in your pre-caffeine daze. If that sounds your like your dream morning, there's a Memorial Day Weekend deal at Amazon you should check out.

As of May 26, the Breville Barista Pro espresso machine (in the stainless steel finish) is on sale at Amazon for just $599.99, marked down from the MSRP of $849.95. That's a 29% discount that shaves a massive $249.96 off the normal price. It's also the lowest price we've ever seen on this kitchen appliance at Amazon — and by $100. We first shared this deal earlier in the week while collecting the best Memorial Day Amazon deals, but with the holiday weekend about to end, the clock is ticking on this opportunity.

We get it — dropping almost $900 on an espresso machine feels a bit unreasonable. Plenty of drip coffee machines brew up a form of caffeine for about $20. But the Breville Barista Pro gives you the ability to recreate cafe drinks at home. And with today's discount, you'll be able to save almost $250. If we crunch some numbers, we'll say a latte costs $5 at your go-to chain drive-thru, which means you'll need to make just 120 lattes with the Breville to break even. Plus, there's no line, and you can stay in your pajamas.

The Breville packs in the features, and it heats up in just three seconds. From there, you'll use the built-in grinder that auto grinds with Baratza European Precision burrs to one of the 30 grind settings. The nine-bar extraction will then serve you up perfect crema on either a single or a double espresso shot, and you can top it all off with silky microfoam.

You'll get all the necessary accessories to successful become an at-home barista like like a single and double filter basket, a stainless steel milk jug, and a water filter.

While you're shopping on Memorial Day, snag the Breville Barista Pro espresso machine at Amazon before it sells out. This $599.99 sale price is the lowest we've ever seen Amazon offer, so you'll want to scoop this up before the price returns to normal. You'll be thankful you did each morning.

New leak suggests Grok 3.5 is coming soon from xAI

Mashable - Mon, 05/26/2025 - 17:00

The Grok 3.5 launch is imminent, according to references to the model spotted in some lines of code.

The latest version of Grok doesn't have an official launch date, but that could be coming any day now since mention of Grok 3.5 has been showing up in xAI's latest web build, according to TestingCatalog, which posted screenshots on X.

This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.

The AI news site also noticed a reference to an API, and said it might also be preparing a screen-sharing feature for Grok's voice mode on iOS. This would be similar to OpenAI's voice mode with ChatGPT and Google's Gemini Live features.

This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed.

In late April, xAI founder Elon Musk posted that an early beta release of Grok 3.5 would be available to SuperGrok subscribers, starting the countdown for a wider release. More recently, Musk commented on an X post about Grok 3.5, saying it would excel at "reasoning from first principles (truth)," suggesting the new version will have stronger reasoning capabilities.

The model as touted as an "unfiltered" model compared to others that have more safety guardrails. Recently, that backfired with a bug that kept mentioning "white genocide" in South Africa" in response to completely unrelated queries.

The current model, Grok 3, is comparable to rivals with image generation, research, and everyday use, but Grok 3.5 could be a step-up in coding abilities, where it currently lags behind models like Gemini and Claude, according to Bleeping Computer.

Keep an eye out for a Grok 3.5, which could be ship in the near future. When it does, we'll know how Musk's latest model stacks up to its rivals.

Apples new HomePod with a display might arrive by the end of 2025

Mashable - Mon, 05/26/2025 - 14:41

Apple's new HomePod will have a display, and it might arrive later this year.

This is according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman (via 9to5Mac), who claims that the device will launch "by the end of this year," though he admits that the timing is uncertain.

The new device will be a smart home speaker with an added display (a 7-inch one, previous rumors claim), that should one day become a centerpiece of Apple's smart home tech. Other features, per previous reports, includes support for Apple Intelligence, a camera, smart home controls, and a rechargeable battery. While the device will have a built-in speaker, Apple will likely position it as a smart hub instead of just a home speaker.

This new gadget was originally slated to launch in 2024, but numerous delays pushed the launch further into the future.

According to Gurman, the main culprit behind the delays has been Apple's smart assistant Siri. Once a pioneer in the space, Apple has been struggling to bring its AI assistant close to the levels offered by competitors, including OpenAI's ChatGPT, and Google's Gemini.

SEE ALSO: The best Memorial Day headphones deals: Shop Bose, Apple, Sony, and more

When the HomePod-with-a-display finally launches, it could be the first of several AI-centric devices Apple plans to produce further down the line. This includes a more futuristic version with a robotic arm; Gurman now claims we can expect it "a year or two" after the first one hits the market.
